Do Categories cramp creativity?I've uploaded this to illustrate how categories like Community video contain normative boundaries that I have been uncomfortable with. The boundary here is my thought stream on culture and democracy that crosses from archive footage (like the other video) to art performance experiments on video... I would think that even if unstructured and uncommented on footage were allowed (not documentary) then an artwork on t-shirts would seem 'out of place'. But that is a division in me between info and creativity.. By szczels at 8 Oct 2006 - 19:30 | read more | 108 comments | play | 5 min 14 sec | 150 bytes | 116 plays | 0 downloads

Am I a citizen?I am contributing to the Citizen Video discussion at NFT: So I thought I'd write a few notes to precede the live discussion... This website looks very quiet but if there are any readers out there... hi! In the last 2/3 months I've been re-editing some of my videos and doing quick edits on some others, with IPod scale distribution in mind. I've posted them onto Google video via its web based up loader. This has a file size limit of 100Mb, so I had to edit longer pieces down to about 15 minutes. I can't get the desktop uploader, for videos larger than 100Mb, to work on my Mac and am having trouble processing video to their spec with FCP 4 /Quicktime. The .Mv4 Quicktime output does work well so I've stayed with that for the meantime. Anyway iPod versions seem an ideal way of getting a introductory version of material into potentially widespread circulation.
